Winter in South America. It's on!

After good weeks of summer at home in Austria, I was really keen for winter number two. About 30 hours of traveling from Vienna, to Amsterdam and Lima till we finally arrived in Santiago de Chile. We picked up our camper van from Wicked Campers South America at the airport and started our journey towards south to Termas de Chillan for our first day on snow. We spent one day in the ski area to get used to our skis again.

After some good powder skiing we packed our tent and sleeping bags and hiked up about 400 vertical meters next to the ski area. After a cozy but stormy night we continued our hike to a ridge line. Some climbing later we skied down some nice spines on the back side and hiked up again to our tent.
Back at the car we decided to go even further south to Bariloche, Argentina. It was supposed to be like a 13 hour drive. Due to a closed border in the south and two car break downs we needed 3 days to get to our destination.

We met Marius(our photographer) who stayed in a really comfortable penthouse in the 10th floor with an amazing view on the lake and the surrounding mountains. The ski area there is awesome. With short hikes it ‘s possible to reach cool faces with some nice cliffs. We even had some really good snow in the trees and found some nice airs....finally!

Tomorrow we are off to Santiago for the Freeskiing World Tour contest in Chile, which will be held by a cat skiing operation called Ski Arpa. Let’s see how that goes  :)

cheers
